Example: How Caffeine Affects Your Time to Fall Asleep
Let’s take caffeine as an example.
- Review your sleep data on days when you had caffeine and days when you didn’t.
- Compare the time it took you to fall asleep (sleep latency).
You may notice something like this:
- Days with caffeine: average sleep latency of 13 minutes
- Days without caffeine: average sleep latency of 5 minutes
This kind of comparison helps you realize that late-day caffeine might be delaying your sleep.

Late-Night Meals and Stress Can Impact Sleep Quality Too
You can analyze other habits the same way.
- Do you wake up more often during the night after a late-night meal?
- Is your wake-up mood worse on days when you felt stressed?
Looking at your own data makes these relationships easier to spot-and more convincing.
